Several streets will be resurfaced, including parts of Vierling Drive, 4th Avenue, Spencer Street, Roundhouse Circle and Sarazin Street. Resurfacing a street helps to extend its life, provides a smoother driving surface and reduces annual maintenance needs.

Fuller Street Pedestrian Bridge

June 28, 2010 Update - Last week, the contractor completed the bituminous pavement operation on Fuller Street and for the trail system. They also completed the bridge painting operations and began to perform the final turf establishment and placement of traffic control signs on the bridge and along Fuller Street. This week's schedule includes the continuation of turf establishment work, placement of plantings, and the restriping of Fuller Street.

June 21, 2010 Update - Last week, the contractor complete the first lift of bituminous pavement on the Fuller Street widening. The deck bridge forms that were used to support the concrete deck also were removed. This week's schedule includes bituminous paving on Fuller Street and the trail system. Final grading and bridge painting also will take place.

June 14, 2010 Update - Last week, the contractor completed the placement of the 10 pedestrian ramps for the project. They also began to remove the bridge deck forms that were used to support the concrete deck. This week's schedule includes bituminous paving operations on Fuller Street, continued bridge deck removals over TH 169 and placement of the lamppost on the bridge rails. Additional trail grading operation will also take place throughout the week.

June 7, 2010 Update - Last week, the contractor successfully poured the last of the concrete for the pedestrian bridge. They were able to place the concrete curb along the East side of Fuller Street, widening the road to provide a right turn lane onto Vierling Drive.  This week, look for pedestrian curb ramps, grading and pavement operation to continue, along with conduit placement for the new street lights that will be placed along Fuller Street North of Highway 169.

June 1, 2010 Update - Last week, the contractor poured the concrete bridge deck along with the first section of the concrete bridge railing curb. Storm sewer placement also was finished along the northeast side of Fuller Street. This week, look for concrete railing pours to continue, along with electrical conduit placement for the lampposts that will be placed on the bridge.

May 24, 2010 Update - Last week, the contractor finished placing the forms and the steel reinforcement for the concrete deck. Rain delayed the pour, which was scheduled to take place Friday. The contractor plans to pour the deck early this week and begin the storm sewer placement on the northeast side of Fuller Street.

May 17, 2010 Update - Rain and high wends throughout the last two weeks slowed operations. The contractor began placing the forms for the concrete deck. This week, decking operations will continue along with the placement of steel reinforcement. The contractor also plans to begin working on the trail and Fuller Street roadway work this week.

May 3, 2010 Update - The contractor was able to complete the preparation for placing the prestressed concrete beams across Highway 169. The beams were set late Friday evening with work completed around 3 a.m. Saturday morning. This week, the contractor plans to begin placing the forms for the concrete deck. This work will require Highway 169 lane and shoulder closures throughout the day to protect the traveling public.

April 26, 2010 Update - The contractor was able to complete the construction of the pier cap and south abutment structures last week. The plan for this week is to back fill all the structures with granular material in preparation for setting the pre-stressed concrete beams. The beam setting is tentatively scheduled for 10 p.m., Friday, April 30 until 5 a.m., Saturday, May 1. Highway 169 will be shutdown and detoured to accomodate the beam setting operations. The detour will incorporate the ramps at CR 15 to 17th Avenue East to the ramps at CR 17.

April 19, 2010 Update - Despite the rain, work on the Fuller Street Pedestrian  Trail bridge continued. The contractor finished forming the north abutment structure and was able to pour it on April 16. Form work and placement of the steel reinforcement also progressed on the pier cap, which is located in the Highway 69 median. This week, the contractor plans to complete the pier cap and south abutment construction. The plan is to pour both structures by the end of the week in preparation for placing the precast concrete beams across Highway 69.

Other fun facts about the bridge:

  • When completed, the bridge will be 14.33 feet wide, with a 12 foot walkway. It will be 245.5 feet long.
  • More than 30,000 pounds of steel reinforcement will be used to construct the bridge.
  • Did you know the green coating on the bridge actually protects the steel from winter deicing salts used in the state.

April 9, 2010 Update - Work began on the Fuller Street Pedestrian Trail Bridge the week of March 29, 2010. The contractor performed a slight traffic shift on Fuller Street moving the driving lanes to the west by six feet. This shift gives the contractors room to facilitate their work and gives the travel public a safety buffer. The contractor also poured the pier footing, which is located in the Highway 169 median.

The week of April 5, the contractor completed driving the steel piles that support the bridge foundation. These 10 piles (five at each abutment structure) were driven to a depth of approximately 30 feet into solid bedrock. Weather permitting, the north and south abutment footing and the first section of the pier structure will be poured Friday, April 9, 2010.

Please check back for updates.
