Community Development

The Community Development Department provides services in three areas: planning and zoning; building inspections; and transit. The City's planning staff works with the City Council, Planning Commission and other City boards and commissions to plan for the City's future, guide the City's current growth and development and put in place zoning standards that help to ensure that Shakopee remains an attractive and livable community. The City's inspection staff is responsible for making sure that new construction (whether it is a deck, new home or new commercial building) meets the adopted building and fire code standards.
