Shakopee Parks and Recreation offers many special events throughout the year for all ages. Some examples are the Happy Birthday American Parade, Annual Summer Carnival, Park Cleanup Day, and Senior Olympics. Check back often to see what special events are scheduled.
Gather your family and friends for a mini excursion into the scenic Minnesota River Valley. Mount Kato boasts 19 trails. Don't worry about the drive; we'll even have a trailer hooked up to the bus for those individuals who want to bring their own skis or snowboards. If you need to rent a helmet or other equipment, please bring the exact amount specified, as we are getting a group discount and the money will be collected by a Parks & Rec. staff person. Ski or board rental - $16; lessons for ages 7 or older - $3; helmets - $4. Please note, minors must be accompanied by an adult. Register online by Jan. 12 for Program #SKI 121.

Active older adults are invited to enjoy the adventure of an unknow social lunch destination in a group setting. Lunch cost is on your own. Fee covers ground transportation. If you need help preparing your taxes and are a senior citizen or low-income family, AARP will provide tax preparation assistance. Tax help will be provided on a first-come-first-served basis. Sessions will start at 8 a.m. and end at 1 p.m. No advance appointments will be made.
Please bring: a copy of last year's income tax return; W-2 forms you have received (showing your income from work or pensions paid to you); Form SSA-1099, which shows the Social Security paid to you; All 1099 forms you have received, which shows interest and dividends earned on investments; records of any other income you have received; and receipts or canceled checks for medical/dental expenses and any contributions to charities.

Older active adults are invited to see international performer Paddy O'Brien play. There will be Irish reels, jigs and hornpipes. Dance instructors will demonstrate and lead the group in traditional steps. Light refreshments will be provided. The Miss Minnesota Valley Royalty welcomes all princes and princesses ages 5 to 11(children 7 and younger with parent) to this grand occasion. Make a crown fit for a king or a sash befitting of a beautiful queen. Enjoy a royal feast of Pizza N Pasta pizza. There will be treasure bingo, stories, majestic arts and royal portaits. Older Active Adults will take a walk down memory lane with this musical homage to the close-harmony "guy groups" that reached the height of popularity during the 1950s. This clean-cut musical features '50s-style crooning and hilarious antics that will have you laughing yourself to tears. Register online by March 30 for Program #ST 418.
Join Princess Belle for a dress-up tea party for kids ages 3 to 7. Bring your favorite adult and dress FANCY! Learn manners and how to pour from a teapot at this magical event. Couples will enjoy a story time, share a snack, pour juice from a teapot and more at this magical event. Bring your camera for a special photo with Princess Belle.
