Shakopee Police Explorers

Shakopee Police Explorers are a group of young men and women, age ranging from 14-21, who are interested in law enforcement. The program focuses on building qualities such as leadership, character, citizenship, and professionalism within students.

Meetings are held on most Tuesdays throughout the school year, from 4pm to 6:30pm, at the Shakopee Police Department. Explorers train in a wide variety of topics including traffic stop, domestic violence intervention, bomb threat, traffic accident reconstruction, and burglary response. Explorers also assist the department in many events throughout the city such as bicycle rodeos, Derby Days, Nite to Unite, career fairs, and Shakopee Showcase. After acquiring skills throughout the year, from all the various trainings and events, Explorers are able to test those skills by attending the state competition in Rochester, MN.

New explorers go through a three month probationary period. After successful completion of this time, they are then issued a uniform.
