Park Development Riverside Fields and Riverside Bluffs Neighborhood Park

This park has been identified in the In the City’s Capital Improvement Program for “Active Uses,” which may include: a playground, ball fields, ice skating, hockey, parking, and supporting structures. Utilities such as lighting and water will also be added to support those uses.

On August 10, 2009, the City Council moved to put a hold on all park construction until park dedication fees are collected from development.  Due to lack of development at this time, the funding for park development is minimal.  As development funds are attained the City will begin the planning stages of the future projects.

August 3, 2009 Project Status:
The City's intention is to install a playground in 2009 onto the park parcel currently in the City's possession. The entire park cannot be constructed until the City receives the parcel to the west that is intended for park use. The playground installation is currently on hold until the City receives the park dedication fees from a commercial development that is expected to record their final plat in 2009. Once the park dedication fees are received by the City, staff will begin putting together playground options and specifications.

Prior to obtaining quotes for the playground, staff will hold a meeting with the residents of the area to obtain input on desirable playground features. The announcements for future meetings will be sent out via email. If you would like to be added to this list, please contact Jamie Polley at jpolley@ci.shakopee.mn.us. We thank you for your patience.

November 11, 2008 Project Status:
The second neighborhood meeting will be held in the Spring of 2009. Meeting notices will be sent out in advance. At this meeting, we will decide on a playground concept. Staff will then prepare bid documents for a playground to be installed in 2009, pending park reserve funds.

September 11, 2008 Project Status:
Due to changes in staffing, feedback from the May 22 neighborhood meeting has not been completed for a July meeting. Current City staff will review the input from the May 22 neighborhood meeting, and a preliminary plan for the park will be discussed at a second neighborhood meeting. The date and time of the meeting will be determined at a later date. Announcements for future meetings will be sent out via email. If you would like to be added to this list, please contact Jamie Polley at jpolley@ci.shakopee.mn.us.

May 30, 2008 Project Status:
The first neighborhood meeting was held on May 22. Attached is a link to the power point presentation that staff presented. Staff answered a lot of questions, and we had a good discussion about the park and what the plan for phased construction includes. Staff will be compiling feedback from the meeting and using that for the preparation of schematic designs to be presented at another meeting in July. Announcements for future meetings will be sent out via e-mail. If you would like to be added to this list, please contact Jamie Polley at jpolley@ci.shakopee.mn.us.

May 5, 2008 Project Status:
The first Neighborhood Design Meeting for this park is scheduled from 7-8 p.m. on May 22, 2008, at Eagle Creek Elementary Cafeteria. Please see the meeting flyer for information. All residents of Riverside Fields and Riverside Bluffs, young and old, are encouraged to attend!

This meeting will be held to discuss the status of the park, timelines for construction and possible alternatives for the park and playground design. This park also needs an official name, so park name ideas will be discussed.
